Free Recipe for Followers: Cooking amazing rice

How to cook rice:

This is a staple for millions upon millions but so many people aren’t sure how to cook it properly.

Here’s how I do it:
Generally the ratio of rice to water is 1 cup rice to 1 - 1 ½ of water.

You’ll need:
*A pot with a lid – doesn’t have to be 100% air tight, just so you don’t lose the bulk of the steam
*Rice of your choice – I really like Basmati, but Jasmine is cheaper and also delicious.
*Boil some water (it has to be hot, so if you can use an electric kettle or microwave until it’s boiling)

1. While water is boiling measure in the rice out and pour into the pot.
2. Add the boiling water – remember the ratio.
3. Pour the boiling water over the rice.
4. Very gently with a wooden spoon or similar, stir it together. Do not add salt! (I know we’re supposed to for taste, but we have enough salt in the other stuff we eat – so save you heart a bit).
5. BUT do add a flavor if you want to – especially turmeric or paprika, they both go really well. You can add chives, or another herb (such as cilantro) that goes with what you’re eating that night.
6. Put the pot on the stove at a very low heat (you may not even need to heat it because the water is so hot you’ll cook rice anyway) and, with the lid on, let it simmer.
7. After about 5 minutes check on your rice. If there’s still a little water there that’s great, put the lid back on. If you can tell it’s cooking by the lack of water and the top rice grains look small but below them are larger and moist, give the rice a very gentle stir (you don’t want to break up the grains). You can turn off the heat and leave the lid on once you know the rice is cooking.
Viola!
